  • Home teams were 2-5 in a packed weekend.
  • Buffalo won 2 and Philly went 1-1.  We're officially the worst team in the league.
  • Washington finally beat Calgary.
  • We're 2 games out of a playoff spot with no tiebreaker.  Need to make up 3 points in 7 games.  Not likely.

  • Quarter 3
    • Did that crowd break Sat? I felt something off.  There was a nervousness before the game and now that we're 0-5 at home.
  • Quarter 4
    • No game this weekend.
    • It's clear that we're not a playoff team unless there are major improvements made quickly.
    • I plan to continue being a fan of this team… I just have no hopes for this season being a playoff year.

  • Quarter 1
    • Right now you're thinking… that record isn't right.  Let me explain.
      • I know we're 2-6… but
      • 5 1-goal games.
      • 5 great efforts, 3 bad ones.
    • What I saw
      • Great effort
      • Showed resilience
      • Small mistakes
        • Missing loose balls (one allowing a 3-0)
        • Miscommunications on D with 31 seconds left
        • Not boxing out.  (Levis' jump ball)
    • Nothing to be ashamed of.
      • Spoke with Govett after the game.  When I pointed out 5 one goal games, he responded with "championship teams win one goal games".  Frankly though… rookie teams don't always.
      • There's a lot to build off of for this one.
    • Crowd was fantastic
      • 15,427
      • And LOUD

  • Grats to Boston, winning at home.
    • No one else did
    • Home teams are now a more reasonable 28-17,  still unbalanced, but leveling.
  • Orlando is officially for real.
    • Washington and Toronto BOTH lose again for the 3rd straight time.
  • We needed to win against Minny because even Philly won.  We could have made up some serious ground on the pack had we won, but just the wrong side of it.
  • Halftime
    • Got it done, 7-6 in OT
      • After being down 5-1 at the half.
    • I sucked.
      • Need to get more mean
    • Only 7-1 team… now it's time to focus on spring.
  • Quarter 4
    • Another bye week.
      • In fact, only 2 games this week at all
      • Most interested in watching Orlando kill Buffalo… just for grins
      • Philly will also visit Calgary.  should be an easy win.
    • Work on fundamentals
      • Eliminate the little mistakes and lapses and the close games will tip our way again.
      • Get some team practices with the local boys

    • After seeing the score I didn't want to watch the mammoth lose 15-5
    • So here's Ronin
    • How did they look in the 1st as opposed to the 2-4th
    • I've heard reports of disgruntlement in the Goalies…  body language of defenders.
    • Did the Mammoth give up?  The 4th quarter says yes.

  • Home teams finally had a losing week… we were again on the wrong side of this!
  • Washington is now falling back from it's lofty undefeated perch with two losses in a row
  • Edmonton gets an impressive win over Toronto.
  • Boston and Orlando played the longest game in NLL history, a 76 minute double OT with Sean Morris getting the game winner.
    • Neither Vinc nor Cosmo deserve the loss in this one… one hell of a game.
  • This just in, Philly is still REALLY bad.
  • Halftime
    • Vipers win again, now 6-1 with 6 wins in a row.
    • Getting a grasp of defensive positioning.  Still need to strengthen my stick work
    • Kyle and his pick
  • Quarter 3
    • HoF Nominees
      • Dan Stroup is now a Hall of Famer… congrats
      • So are Rich Kilgor (hate his brother, Rich is OK) and John Tucker (and original player in the league, from 1987 to 1994)
    • Calgary looks like they are turning it around.  This is a very interesting duality to us.  Calgary's roster remained relatively unchanged, but they have a rookie coach.
      • We started the season with an almost completely new roster and the same coach.  (no longer the case, clearly)
      • Calgary is, of course,  looking to be back to form.
    • I've heard rumblings of a "must-win" game here at home on Sat.
      • For attendance purposes are the only reason I would think this to be the case.
      • The Mammoth are not a contender this year.  That much is plain.
        • There are no "must-win" games for a team that is not going to contend this year.  I will iterate again, it's a must perform.  No more 10 goal losses, not even 5 goal losses.  Gotta keep it close.
    • Now, given the above, the Mammoth are only 2 games out of second place.  And 1 out of a playoff spot.
      • Making the playoffs would be good for this team.  It's not that hard, as you only have to beat any 1 team to get in out west.
        • The team could use the playoff seasoning together.
      • The goal for the rest of the season should be taking one game at a time, and potentially make the playoffs.
  • Quarter 4
    • Quick chance to respond to the Swarms thrubbing of us.
      • That good or bad?  I think good
      • This game is important for a lot of reasons
        • Confidence… NEED SOME!
        • Fight amongst bottom dwellers.
        • Possible tiebreak scenarios later in the year.
    • How to stop the Swarm?
      • First, inject Callum Crawford with a sedative. I recommend a direct cranial injection via Moose's stick.
      • Second, better offensive possesions.
        • I've learned that good offence helps the D more than any other single factor
      • Last, Stay out of the box and play better special teams.
        • Been woefull lately.

  • Again, Home teams are dominant.
    • Not a good sign for the Mammoth in that the best we can do is 5-3 and that's not likely.
      • If the CAN pull off 5-3 and maintain their road record… that could be a positive, I just don't view that as likely.
    • Home teams are  25-10!
  • The Stealth lost their first one.
    • No one is going to win them all, they lost to a gritty effort by the Swarm.
  • What the hell is with Orlando having only played 4 games.  Their schedule is messed up.  Toronto is at the halfway point of their season and Orlando is at the quarter pole.  That snow delay really accentuated this.
    • I expect Orlando to really fade down the stretch due to fatigue
  • Philly is just plain bad.  Being the only home team to not defend the home turf
    • Wish we played them again.
  • 4 way log jam in the west.  With Calgary and Edmonton having a 1 game lead over Colorado and Minn.
  • More on Minn in Quarter 4
  • Halftime
    • Vipers pulled it off, 7-5
    • Two teams at 5-1, with us having a 1 goal diff tiebreaker. We win out and the championship is ours.
    • Hats off to Travis who got his first ever goal.  Last week Kyle got his first two goals.  So our beginners are starting to score.
    • I got beaten like a rented mule by the oppositions top scorer, but learned from it.  It won't happen that way again.
    • Playing in the spring session… more info at http://www.milehighlacrosse.com/
  • Quarter 3
    • Huge bench clearing brawl between the Swarm and the Stealth.
      • With people coming off the benches, there should be suspensions.
    • Calgary came up huge over Toronto.  Their new netminder Mike Poulin did amazing work to help them beat the Rock. He allowed 3 goals in 43 minutes of work!  Almost wish we could have traded for him somehow.
    • Rochester has to be the single hardest team to figure out right now.  Any given week they can either dominate or look terrible.
      • Seem to be much stronger at home.  With a 3-0 home record and a 1-3 road record.
    • Mammoth have signed solid D man Chris McKay.  Given our league worst defense, this can't hurt.
  • Quarter 4
    • We're visiting the Minnesota Swarm.
    • Good news and Bad news
    • Good news
      • We have the same number of Road wins as Toronto and Washington
        • They were OT wins, but they were wins.
      • We're the only team with an overall losing record that has a winning record on the road.
        • Perhaps we should boo them at home???  (JOKING!!)
    • Bad news
      • The Swarm have to be confident after bouncing Wash
      • Mammoth have many, many question marks.
    • Overall analysis.
      • The loser of this one is the worst team in the west.
      • It's going to take more than heart to win this one.  We have to execute the fundamentals.  In the last several games there have been too many fumbles on offence, and too many blown coverages and loose ball misses on D.
      • Our boys have all the talent in the world… but have been losing focus in the moment.  Perhaps a road game will help regain that focus.
    • This is not a must win yet, given that the only team out west that's performing consistently is Washington still.
      • It would be nice to be within sight of .500

  • Quarter 1
    • Slow off ball, careless with the ball
    • Goaltending weak, Levis looked acceptable
    • Defense average at best.
      • Another weak call on Moose…
      • Tossing Shewie
        • Member of Mammoth thoguht it was OK.
    • Titans looked fantastic on D.
      • Stiffling penalty kill.
    • Best not to dwell going into bye week.
      • More injuries, This time Matt Wilson, dislocated shoulder.

      • Starting to see seperation at the top.
        • Washington and Toronto are pulling away
        • Titans may be starting that way too, need another week to tell
      • Mammoth still in the pack since no one but Washington out west seems to be pulling away.
        • Means we have time still to solve issues.  Less pressure than there could be,
      • Bandits move to 1-5
        • HAHAHAHHA
  • Halftime
    • Vipers are 4-1!!
    • Level heads won the week of crazy reffing.
    • Upcoming week against the team that beat us.
  • Quarter 3
    • Jim Moss
    • Chris Levis
      • Really happy to see him back.
      • Did well in relief
      • Thinks the D left Leysh hangining early.
        • Not sure I agree, but he's got a better view than me.
      • Got a laugh out of telling him to paint his mask!
    • Curtis Palidwor
      • Really happy with surgery result
        • Two plates and the tiniest of incisions
        • Should be cleared to work out sometime in the next week or two
        • Didn't ask about mask change… should have.
        • I hadn't spoken with him much… he's totally class.  I look forward to seeing him back between the pipes.
  • Quarter 4
    • Bad news…
      • Defense is not looking great.  Having allowed 80 goals in 6 games will not get it done.
    • Worse news
      • We were ranked as high as #2 in Offense, now that's tailing off
    • Worst news
      • 0-3 at home.  What is happening?
    • How to regain the Pepsi Center mystique and advantage
      • The enemy is feeding off us as much as our boys.
      • Bring the Loud!
        • But when appropriate.

Stealth Can't Win

Guess what Mammoth fans, it's a no lose situation this weekend.

Episode 303

Played: 121 | Download | Duration: 00:15:42

  • Quarter 1
    • 2 OT games
      • 15-14 win in Minn, 12-11 win in Philly
      • Never say quit attitude
      • Hustle
        • Amazing transition play.
          • Don't know how much of this is a new coach in Govett, but it was a treat to see the same style of Mammoth play that old time fans have grown accustomed too.
        • Tree in the Defensive end
          • Burned 20 seconds on his own.  Letting the D rest and switch on the PK!
        • Jamie Superchuck and his play (11 points in two games, tied for 3rd in points!)
          • Short handed goal to tie with less than 3 to go in Philly
        • The Gajic brothers.
          • Can't say enough.  They will only get better and they are looking pretty good right now.
          • Ilija 2nd and Alex 4th in rookie scoring.  Just wow
        • Ryan McFayden
          • Kid got some time this weekend and he made the most of it.  He looked energetic and scrappy on defence.  I'd vote for him as one of the starting 6 D any week, hands down. Major Props.
      • Leysh
        • Briefly replaced in MN, but came back in the 2nd half looking much better.
        • Having called out the netminder, I'll be the first to note, he played better.   No major softies.  Keep on improving Andrew.
    • Not the end all be all.  But it feels so much better at 2-2 than at 0-4, or 1-3
    • Should give confidence in the future when facing a deficit late, this team will believe in itself.
  • Quarter 2 Scoreboard
    • Washington 13

      Buffalo 11

      Toronto 17

      Rochester 3

      Edmonton 11

      Buffalo 7

      Boston 13

      Orlando 9

      Washington 16

      Calgary 15

    • Only the Stealth and Mammoth won on the road this weekend.  Making home teams 11-6 so far
    • Buffalo is the last winless team
      • Warms a Mammoth fans soul that does.
    • Having said it earlier, Washington is looking for real.  That team is shaping up to be scary good, beating the defending champs in their own barn.
      • Washington is our next opponent.  Talk about a test.
    • Toronto had a great game at the same time the Knighthawks had a terrible one.  That is the most lopsided shelacking I've ever seen.
      •  It'll be interesting to see how BOTH teams handle it.
  • Quarter 3
    • Max Siebald to the Wings
      • I LIKE this kid.  Shows heart, speed, size, and touch.  It'll take him a year or two to adjust to the indoor game, but he has all the tools to be great.
    • Buffalo 0-4 at the quarter mark.
      • Lot of questions as to where they will be, and where they are going
        • Glad we don't have to answer those questions.
      • It's still a team of goons, and now they are a losing team of goons.  What goes around…
    • Geoff Snider is a punk.
      • All talk, no follow through against any of the Mammoth
        • Prolly cause the game was close.
  • Quarter 4
    • Would have talked about the record of Wash in Q3, but since they are our dance partner on Sat night, might as well bring it up here.
    • Honesty : this is a tall order.
      • On paper, Better offence, better defense.
      • No shockers as to where the offence comes from , the dynamic trio of Zwycki, Ratcliff, and Duch is amazing.
      • Defence is overperforming,
        • Crazy good play from Tyler Richards their netminder.
    • What it will take to win.
      • Effort.
        • Our boys have shown tremendous heart in this roadtrip.  It's time to bring that heart home.
      • Hustle.
        • Let our young Denverite legs run around and let the slightly older low landers try to keep up in the 4th.
      • Response
        • The Stealth are going to do some good things, we have to respond in positive ways and keep it close.  Running them around won't do a darn bit of good if we're down by 6 or 7 in the 4th
      • Leysh
        • These guys are a murders row of offense.  We won't need Leysh to stand on his head, but he needs to make the saves he's supposed to, and if he can stop a few others, I'll take em.
  • Closing
    • It's a good week to be a Mammoth fan, we're heading the right direction from 0-2 to 2-2, but we now have a monumental test.  We've had some success, now we get to see how this young team responds to that. So it's time for our team to step up and send an unmissable message to the league and give the Stealth all we've got.

Change in the Mammoth coaching ranks
